An Atheist Bible Forced to Do Some Serious Thinking about My belief in God

When I was surfing the internet yesterday, I accidentally landed on some of atheist’s bibles. I can’t remember what keyword I typed in to Google that made me reach to those particular pages. Though it doesn’t sound too good for me to read it since I am a believer of God, but I still did and continue reading until I have finished it. Atheists have really strong dispositions and strong opinions that there is no God. And that made me also rethink of my belief about God.

Why do I believe in God? Well, let me share to you my three reasons why do I believe in God.

Intelligent Designs, Forms, and Functions

If you are working with your garden and touches those rough solid soil and rock formations, you might not pause and ask yourself who made those particular soil and rocks. But if you encounter a very nice cell phone with a sleek design you would probably conclude that somebody made it. It could not have come about by a chance, and it must be a product with an intelligent design. However, those soil and rock formations are actually far more intricate than a cell phone. It holds not only your plants in your garden but also your house, your farm, your city and even your country. Those soil and rocks, the gravity, the human body, the DNA, the changing climate and weather – these all features intelligent design and I believe God is the source of all of these things.

Consider an unassembled car which is composed of thousands of parts and miles of wiring, now what are the chances of those unassembled parts to form a perfectly designed and functional car running faster to the highways? The chances are nothing. But a machine as complex as a commercial car has been formed, designed, and functioned. Therefore, even if nothing was made known about Honda Cars, KIA Motors, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, any of those companies, rational and ordinary people would still consider that someone has built and designed the car. It didn’t just happen by a chance.

The Universe, the galaxy, the solar system, and the earth itself also have form, design and function. Our world with a complex and well balance ecosystem requires an even greater stretch of imagination compared to the most high-tech gadget ever released in the market up to date. And I believe God is the source of all these supreme, intelligent designs, and inventions.

God is Love

Animals mate and bear its young without love. Cell divides and viruses multiply without love. Flowers bloom without love. Chicken lays eggs without love. If we refer from a purely biological standpoint, love is not necessary for survival of species. Human beings likewise do not need love in order to survive, yet we do love. Why? Certainly, there is love because God created humans in his own image and likeness. God is love, so there is no other reason for love to exist.

Values, Ethics and Morality

People all over the world imposed different laws. Whether primitive or sophisticated, basic moral laws exist in all societies and universally observed prohibitions covering the basic forms of activity namely; murder, theft, and rape. Human beings like the world it occupies, lives and functions in an orderly manner. Somewhat statute laws and common laws may vary from different places with different cultures, these all have their beginnings in moral law which steers for orderly behavior of humankind. So where does this worldwide or universal consistency, continuity, and accuracy come from? Humans can actually repopulate without values, ethics, and morality. But why do we have such things? Human beings are aware of what is good or bad, we are aware of what is right or wrong. And I believe God is the source of all these things to happen in the billions of human heart.

How I wish that the atheist who was the author of the pages which were I viewed and read last time could also view this page of mind in hubpages.com. Well, I don’t regret that I landed with those pages sometime. I also have my strong dispositions and strong opinions why do I believe in God. For me, God really do exist!

Hi! james.

Very nice article! Your deep feeling and passion is visible in full glow in the article. Though I am not so sure all your arguments are based on known facts. For example I am not so sure that animals do not love each other, at least time being there is no clear evidence in either direction because there are no methods to assess what they feel or think (or even how another human being thinks). Even a mother monkey carries her child and takes all the trouble just like human being. Love seems to flow from animals, plants, every thing in nature. I think compassion from face of Jesus Christ flows to all and then it is reflected by them also. But of course who knows what is right or wrong- so I do not question your ideas.

But I wonder why do you any way need arguments. I think you must be following some form of Christian religion. As far as I understand Abrahamic religions like Christianity have a basic belief system. If you follow this religion, one has to assume that axioms of these basic belief system are true. After that you deduce from these axioms by rational arguments other statements.

Is it not true that one of the axioms is that God exists?

So what is wrong in just saying that this is my starting axiom. God is there. After all Scientists also follow the same style. They also have basic axioms and then create a system by rational arguments from them. This is what your religion also does. Only difference is in Science basic goal is observe and predict events. If experiments do not match with predictions they change the axioms and build up a new systems.

Even the so called rationalists also have axioms like "there is no god" and they do not change that axiom.

Well your axioms are also not changeable. One does need apology for it. "This is my system."

After all if God really exists don't you feel he is powerful enough not to need any such game of mind. Your spiritual beliefs are not just confined to your brain activity or such games. They go far beyond that.

By the way my religion by my birth is Hindu. In Hinduism you do not have to even assume existence of God. It is very different in this sense from Christianity. Still spiritual ideas are not very different from feeling you may have. For that matter even a good rationalist who understands what he is up to also should not have very different feeling (unless of course he gets lost in useless games of trying to win a point by some useless arguments and thinking this as some kind intellectual activity).

I wrote some time back an article on ancient Indian philosophies. Several devoted Christians enjoyed ideas mentioned there and wrote interesting comments. Perhaps you may also enjoy. Wish you all the good luck and have a dense feeling and understanding of your religion.
